History and OverviewThe Nebraska Choral Arts Society (NCAS) was founded in 1978 by Dr. Thomas A. Brantigan, former music director of Dundee Presbyterian Church. The organization was formed as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the performance of great choral and choral-orchestral music. In 1987, Dr. Z. Randall Stroope became the Artistic Director and developed the organization to include eight total choirs, encompassing the Nebraska Children’s Chorus (NCC) as well. In 2004, Stroope passed the baton on to D. Anthony Trecek-King. In August of 2006, NCAS welcomed the fourth Artistic Director of the organization, Dr. Matthew C. Harden. Today, NCAS has nearly 300 singers in eight choirs under the artistic direction of Nancy Engdahl Robson. Over time, the number of singers has changed, but the mission has remained the same. The choirs of NCAS perform a full season of concerts throughout the year, as well as participating in many community events. All choirs tour regionally and several choirs tour both nationally and internationally as well.
